Dr. Amalia Panayiotou notes what we should avoid.

March 20th has been established by the World Dental Federation as World Oral Health Day. Dr. Amalia Panayiotou reminds us what we should pay attention to and what to avoid.

According to the specialist, it is worth noting that:

  • According to the World Dental Federation, 90% of the global population will visit the dentist at least once due to various oral diseases such as cavities, gingivitis, tooth wear, and oral cancer.
  • Toothache is the main reason for absenteeism in many countries—children miss school and adults miss work because of it.
  • It is important to know that oral cancer is the 8th most common form of cancer and the most expensive to treat.

To avoid these unpleasant “surprises,” we should:

  • Visit our dentist twice a year for check-ups and teeth cleaning.
  • Brush our teeth at least twice a day.
  • Adopt healthy dietary habits in our daily routine, avoiding foods and drinks high in sugar content.
  • Limit or quit smoking and alcohol consumption if possible.

Finally, let’s not forget that we adults are always role models for children. So, if we follow hygiene rules, our children will follow suit.
